Historic Carrousel District in Mansfield Ohio
In 1991 the Carrousel District became home to the first new, hand-carved indoor wooden carrousel built in the USA since the early 1930s. This breathtaking carrousel has 52 wooden animals and two chariots. With classic circus colors, mirrors, gilded ornaments, sprightly pump organ music, and wood-carved creatures childhood memories come flooding back.
There are regal horses, goats, and ostriches that are seemingly strutting forth and bouncing up and down to the beat of the music. At Carousel Magic (located in the next block) take a step back in time as skilled craftsmen use time-honored techniques of carving, finishing, and painting to transform hardwood blocks into prancing ponies and magical menagerie figures.
In the Carrousel District, you will find beautifully restored Victorian-age buildings with tin ceilings, solid oak floors, brass lighting, ornate iron fencing, secluded courtyards and the feel of yesteryear.
There are several charming restaurants to choose from in the immediate area surrounding the Carrousel District. Have lunch in a 40s-style diner or enjoy the intimate setting of a coffee shop-style eatery. Experience authentic Greek dishes and pastries. Relax in nostalgic atmosphere while dining outside during the warm summer months.
